My middle boys both had birthday in March. Ca turned 5 and Ben 3. We did a joint Cars 2 birthday party for them. It's a tradition in our family to have a train cake on your third birthday. At first, Ca wanted a Sonic birthday and somehow I was going to make a choo-choo train cake with Sonic on it. But THEN he had the genious idea to do a CARS 2 birthday because there's a train on Cars 2. It's only in there for a second, but we are counting it. The boys have totally been into spy stuff so this worked perfectly.
The Invitation: spy spy spy
On the invitation, I had a secret password for the kids to decode then text me if they were to "accept the mission". I only got about 3 decoded secret password texts from moms. I guess it wasn't as fun as I thought it'd be.
The Food:
It was in the afternoon, so I didn't do a meal. Just a few snacks and cake of course.
Here's my Cars 2 train cake. I was disappointed as to how sloppy it turned out, but at the same time, too tired to be a perfectionist.
My original plan was to build all the cars for the kids, but it would have taken a long time, so I decided to set it up like this. I think the kids actually preferred making their own.
If you've seen the movie, you'll get my guacamole sign. It was Chris' idea to use an icecream scoop.
Games:
The girls are just painting. They were suppose to write with a white crayon and then paint over it with water color and the white crayon then shows up. It didn't work very well.
The string game I called, Lasor Limbo. I tape string to the sides of the hallway and they go through the maze without touching the string - as if they are lasors. I was going to put bells on the string so it'd "sound" when someone touched it, but there were just too many kids, so we just let them go through the maze. We did this one a few times, making the maze longer each time. I think they had fun.
This is a "shoot the lemons" game. It didn't work. The wind kept knocking down the lemons before the watergun could. Next time, I think I'll just tape them to the fence or hang them from a tree. I obviously didn't try out any of my games before the party. ha ha.
This was "hot dynamite." I made dynamite out of gift wrap roll, wrapped in scrapbooking paper, wrapped together with black electrical tape. I attach string for the fuse, too and wrote "Kapow" on it. I meant to take a picture of it. I had a random timer from another game that I used and if the timer when off and you were holding the dynamite, you were out. They had fun with this. Much more exciting to pass around dynamite than a potato.
Blowing out the candles.
Party Favors: Z wrote "top secret" on the envelopes for me. I found printable Cars activities online, then paint your own car, cars fruit snacks, and spare tires (oreos). Jack found found some oreo crumbs on the floor after the party that he enjoyed.
Thank you notes: Oh, you know me too well. I had to make these too. Z has a toy spy kit that had this red paper that you write on and a red decoder so you can see your message. I thought I'd try making my own. The outside says, "a secret message from agents caedon & ben." On the inside is a separate paper with the secret message written in blue and red lines all over it making the message hard to read. The magnifying glass has red cellaphane that makes the message easier to see. I think it worked pretty well. I attached the magnifying glass with a red ribbon so it wouldn't get lost and honestly, because I just thought it was pretty.
