Bathroom Makeover

Here's the before. The walls and ceiling were this color when we moved in - a minty green. There was actually glass doors on the shower instead of a curtain. They grossed me out, so Chris took those out shortly after we moved in. There's a towelrack in the shower but it's so rusted, we can't hang our towels on it. We've been hanging our towels over the shower curtain like this for the last year. I'm 5'4". That's not easy to do.
We've had purple towels ever since we got married. We've bought new ones, but always the same color (didn't want to repaint, etc). I didn't want to buy new towels, but was so sick of our shower curtain that I had bought a few years back b/c it was cheap and it matched.

This is the color I picked for the walls. I was trying to find something that would go with our lilac towels, but not be too matchy matchy. Quart of paint: $13 (could have gotten it cheaper at Walmart, but they were out).

Ahhhh . . . the after . . . I put the color up there because the pictures really make it look brown, but it is a dark plum. I found this new shower curtain at Ross for $5.99! It had purple like my towels in it and I liked it. SOLD!
Ignore the cricked painted line. Chris has already bought new tile for the bathtub, so I wasn't stressing too much about a perfect line. It might be months, dare I say, years, before he actually does it, but I know eventually, it'll be fixed. I bought new shower curtain rings. This was the first time I've ever bought rings that weren't those cheap white plastic ones. They match the wall perfectly. Only probably is that they are tight on my cheap white rod. Might have to buy a new metal rod. Rings: $6.40, Big Lots.

Big Lots again (had a 20% off entire purchase coupon), I looked for a valance for our bathroom. Couldn't find a single one to work, but was browsing another aisle and found green fabric placemats. Ah Ha! 2 at $1.20 each, works for me. Rings: $4, Rod: $4.

My art: I saw some monochromatic colored frames on a wall like this when I was looking for ideas for the nursery. I planned on using the idea in there, and I might still, but for now, I'm trying it out in the bathroom. I already had the canvas. I just painted it and glued on the buttons that I already had. The "love", I just painted directly to the wall and the non-green greenery, I pulled out of a vase from another room. Frames: Good Will, all 3, under $4.

My favorite: We now have a towelrack. Sad thing is, it's from our other house and has been sitting in the garage since we moved in. Chris finally put it in for me. It's on the wall next to the toliet. We decided we didn't really want one in the shower.
Total cost of my makeover, paint and all:
$40!
Eventually, we want to gut it - new bathtub, new vanity, etc, but for now, this little upgrade will do.

Looks great! I would have never thought I'd like purple walls but you made them look really nice! Awesome difference for such a small amount of money. =)

Beautiful! You should be a designer. They don't need to know how to spell crooked. Sorry. I couldn't resist. You're better at everything except spelling and knitting. ;) (Don't learn how to knit because then you'd be better at that, too. Then, I'd only have spelling on you.)

Very chic! Love it! Great job on the budget. Love the placemat curtains and the all colors. One day I'll get around to painting colors in my house. I am thinking after Judi graduates.. :-)
