Last Saturday, at Z's soccer game, his poor little team, composed of 7 little 4 and 5 year olds were matched up against a team that contained 4 six year olds plus their younger ones. As you can imagine, it was a game of defense. Z took it upon himself to guard the goal. His coach has been trying to get them to spread out and not ALL chase the ball. To my amazement, Z listened. He guarded that yellow line that surrounded the goal very closely, standing on it with his arms stretched out and his eyes on the line sometimes more often than on the ball. He even stayed there when the ball and the rest of them team ran to the other side of the field. Everytime the opposing team would try to score, Z was there to block it. (I won't exaggerate too much. They did score a few points on him). After the game, several moms commented on his playing. I assumed it was a job the coach gave him, but come to find out, she said it was "self-appointed".

This picture was from the first game. I didn't take my camera to last week's game.
