Enough Details Already!

I finished the nursery!!! I'm cutting it a little close, but hey, it's done.

Remember Ben's letters I decided to repurpose? Here they are . . .

Back around Valentines, Target had little metal mailboxes in their $1 section. A friend bought one for a co-op lesson, and I asked to have it after she was done with it. I covered it with scrapbooking paper and glue (homemade modge podge), painted some paper mache eggs from Hobby Lobby (Easter clearance), made a nest out of paper, and stuck it on a candle stick. I got the idea from a blog I fell across and a flyer I found at Hobby Lobby. The numbers are his scheduled birthday. If I go into labor before then, my first thought will most assuredly be about that mailbox having the wrong date on it.

The eggs have a little owl watching over them. My kids pointed out to me, "why would the nest be in a mailbox and not the tree?" Good question. Because it's cuter that way!!

The picture frame of course does not have pictures of the baby in it, yet. That's Ca. We'll change it out when we get some. The extra eggs were what I originally bought for the mailbox. They were too big, so they're going in front of the frame instead.

The tree mural. I found one that was vinyl that I liked but they run $60 - $80! I already had paint so I just drew it myself. Not nearly as nice, I'm sure, but I'm working with a small budget here.

My rocking chair corner: owl plaques, maternity picture, extra owl sock, & owl pillow for my back. Oh and my shower curtain curtains hung with matching ribbon.

WE'VE NAMED THE BABY!!! Thanks for your votes! We've decided on Jack Abram (sorry, Courtney). I was proving to Chris how popular Jack is (that was his vote and I didn't want anything so popular). It's been about #9 the last couple years. I then was going to show him that Noah wasn't as popular: turned out it's been #3 the last couple years. So Jack it is. Z didn't like Jack and was trying to get us to name him Joseph (no idea why). Then one day last week, he said, "what about Jack Abram? I like Jack Abram."  He refuses to call him just Jack.

My letters were the last thing up on the wall. I bought chipboards letters with 40% off coupons this week, cut matching letters out of posterboard, covered posterboard with batting to make it puffy and fabric from quilt, & hot glued it all together. The empty frames were from Christians in Actions. I painted them dark gray, too. My original plan was to do lots of frames with his name, baby pictures, owls, etc, but with the owl mural, things were getting too busy in there.
The letters were too big to fit on one wall so I had to corner them. I already had cornered the crib and I really like it. I can hide stuff behind it.
When painting the room, I accidently splattered a drop of paint on the quilt. Ca said, "Oh the baby's going to be mad at you!" I think with 3 older brothers, he'll get over it and I'll be his favorite.
 My owl mobile.
I've been asking Chris to go to the store room and get all the baby stuff: bobby, carseat, cradle, clothes. This is the only box he brought home.

Notice the words the red arrow is pointing to.
He still hasn't gone back yet.

Nursery Makeover:
Fabric, thread, batting, etc: $80 - (not too bad considering he's getting a quilt, too)
Orange paint for mural: $1
Word canvases: free - already had them
Mailbox nest: paper from mom's, mailbox from friend, candlestick from another room, eggs $1
Extra eggs in front of frame: $1
Curtains: 2 shower curtains, $16 each, used a gift card making them free. Ribbon to hang them, $2
Wall paint: used some black I already had and mixed it with white, $15
Owl plaques: $5 for plaques, paper from Mom's
Mobile: socks $2, embroidery thread, etc. $1
Name: $5 for letters, $2 for frames.

So obviously I don't have receipts to give the exact amount that I spent, but I'd guess all in all around $115 and a majority of that is for the quilt. Pretty good, eh?

I have no words. All I can do is stare in awe/disgust at your ability to turn random, recycled things into...that. It is perfection.

Also, I was just about to message you my vote (despite the poll being closed) for a name containing "Abram," when I noticed you had already decided. Love it!
