For Ca's bday, we got him this air-powered nerf rocket launcher. The boys really had a great time with it. It's a little cheaply made, but for $10, it's a great buy. (am I selling something?). 
First you load up the rocket. . . .
Then, you jump on the launcher. 
The air blows through the tube and shoots the rocket really high into the air. They are able to do it all by themselves and were entertained for a long time. (really, I feel like I'm giving an Amazon review).

JD had one of those a few years ago. I think we all loved that thing - it was fun! =)
It's a good thing when we are entertained for hours by ourselves.
